The Everyday Knife: Practical Knife Skills

Build confidence in the kitchen by learning and sharpening your knife skills! Knife skills are important for every person who cooks, not just professionals. There is more to it than just cutting! In this two-hour class, lead by Chef Chad Flasinsk owner of Hotfire Bar & Grill in Shelburne, you will build a foundation of knife efficiency, including proper grip, everyday use and professional techniques. With repetition and practice, you will build your confidence and productivity. You will learn important cuts, dices and slices and make a delicious meal out of it! Whether you’ve never picked up a chef’s knife before, want to brush up on your skills, or just want to spend some time in the kitchen with Chef Chad, this class is for you! Each time this class is taught, we’ll work with different ingredients and techniques, so it’s always okay to take it again—there will always be something new to chop, slice, and learn.

In this hands-on class you will learn:

*Knife cuts can include: Bias-cut, Julienne, Dice, Mince, Chiffonade and Batons, while making mirepoix and dinner!

*While we welcome cooks of all ages to our general classes, our Knife Skills class is limited to ages 18 and older. Younger chefs can join us for hands-on knife skills as part of our Summer Kids Cooking Series.

*Every class is fully hands-on, with students working individually or in small groups of up to two to create each dish together. We do our best to finish on time, but every class moves a little differently, so please allow for up to 30 minutes before or after the scheduled end time.
